New Brockton finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year New Brockton finished ninth in Class 3A region two with a 0-8 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Gamecocks lost as many games as in any season since 2000. The defense allowed a team record 409 points last season. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as New Brockton averaged scoring just 11.6 points a game. The Gamecocks also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.9 points a game. The Gamecocks would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, New Brockton has gone a combined 62-75. Their 45.3% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, New Brockton has managed to compile a record of 120-144. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 3A and 226th in the AHSAA. The Gamecocks will be under the direction of new head football coach Jason Barnett as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Barnett, an Atmore native led Citronelle to a combined 20-31 record including a pair of AHSAA Class 5A playoff appearances in his first two seasons. Over the course of his career, Coach Barnett's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Gamecocks have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 63-44 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 3A and 25th in the AHSAA. The Gamecocks enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 14 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Gamecocks will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at New Brockton will be to simply win some games. The Gamecocks open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Elba on Friday, August 25 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Elba Tigers finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 1A region two. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Sweet Water by a score of 27-20. New Brockton and Elba have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Gamecocks have a 1-15-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Elba winning by a score of 40-8. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
